What a great turnout and a great result for cancer charity Macmillan!

The coffee and cake morning at the Club on 29th September raised a grand total of £1,288 thanks to a gorgeous selection of home-made cakes made by members and supporters, a raffle with lots of valuable prizes and many generous donations from the 110 or so people who came along. Macmillan will benefit from another £100 from gift aid.

Last year’s total was £816; this year £667 was raised on the door, £331 on the raffle, £38 on cake sales and then a tremendous boost of £251 from the sealed-bid auction of two vouchers for legal services from JC Solicitors of Chichester.

A very jolly crowd gathered in the upper deck, entertained by the musical duo of Yacht Rear Commodore David Roberts, on mini folk harp, and guitarist Steve Martin. David built his 25-string Gaelic triangle harp, a clarsach, and taught himself to play.

Commodore Robin Hamilton thanked and congratulated organiser Marion Barker and her team of yacht section ladies who baked, served, decorated and raffled.

“It’s been a case of all hands on deck to achieve this marvellous total for Macmillan”, said Robin. “Congratulations to all of them. I, like many others, know of friends and family who have been affected by cancer and who have been supported by Macmillan  and Chichester Yacht Club is delighted to be able to contribute so much to this excellent charity”.
