Sailors’ Winter Supper, Friday 9 February 2018

Over 70 Yacht Section members turned out on this chilly evening for the Sailors Winter Supper. Andy and his team provided a choice of hearty game or fish pie followed by fruit crumble or fruit salad.

After coffee our talented musicians, Steve Martin and David Roberts (Rear Commodore) got out their guitars and played a good selection of nautical songs starting off with a rowdy rendition of “What shall we do with a drunken sailor”. David composed amusing lyrics for a couple of numbers sung to well known tunes “Sailing about on the Solent” and “Little Bathtubs”. Various plastic yachts were mentioned by name including Jeaneau, Beneteau, Moody and Westerly, but complaints were received from other owners that there was no mention of Bavarias or Southerlies etc. etc. Perhaps the next version can include every make of members’ yachts?!!

The assembled company were in good voice this evening and got quite carried away with shouts of Wip in the song “Whup Jamboree”. Thank you to our accomplished Musical Duo for giving us such great entertainment.

And of course, a thank you to the staff for excellent food and service.
