CYC ""Around the Cans"" Race to Cowes and Pursuit Race home

The 2024 event was the perfect end to the season, with two great days of racing and a fantastic night in the Folly with the usual delicious food and lively band for those who wished to embarrass themselves on the dance floor. The weekend racing consists of a Round the Cans style Race on the Saturday where we will have a slightly more challenging course on our way to Cowes. The usual pontoon party on the mid river pontoon, followed by dinner and hopefully some dancing in the Folly Inn. The Pursuit race home on Sunday is unusual as instead of everyone starting at the same time, the race is run in reverse with each boat have its own start time. The idea is that we should all finish at about the same time. This obviously relies heavily on boats sailing to their handicaps, and the rather dodgy maths of the Racing Secretary, however nothing encourages you to tweak your sails more than the sight of a boat fast approaching your stern. It has also been known for some boats to arm themselves with buckets of water to dissuade any wannabe overtakers.
