Junior Sailing

Rya courses

Our Junior Start Sailing courses are the perfect introduction to life on the water—designed to build confidence, skills, and independence from day one.

Stage One No previous experience required. Youll learn the essentials, including boat handling, controls, capsize recovery, and everything you need to get safely underway.

Stage Two With the basics in place, its time to explore further. Youll develop your sailing technique, learn how to optimise boat performance, and gain the skills to confidently sail where you want to go—and back again.

Stage Three This is where it all comes together. Youll refine your skills to the point of independent sailing, with your instructor nearby for guidance. From here, you take charge as captain of your own vessel.

Watersports pathway

Every sailor will have their own paperwork pack that will be updated after each session, this will include self-evaluations, notes from your instructor and a copy of the RYA sailing syllabus so you get your own, custom progression plan. The aim is to guide you through the sailing scheme so look forwards to awards ceremonies throughout the year to present you with your new certificates as you achieve them.

For Stage One sailors and above, our Watersports Pathway offers a fantastic opportunity to continue progressing. These instructor-led sessions run every other Saturday, giving you regular time on the water to practise and improve.

Each sailor receives a personalised progress pack, including instructor feedback, self-evaluations, and the RYA syllabus—helping you track your development and set goals.

These sessions are designed to be fun but also to progress you through the RYA scheme, so look out for awards evenings and certificate presentations throughout the year.

More than just training, this pathway is about building a vibrant youth sailing community—making friends, gaining confidence, and maybe even finding a crew youll sail with for years to come.

Racing sessions

Ready to pick up the pace? Our Start Racing sessions are the ideal introduction to competitive sailing.

With guidance from an instructor, youll learn how to master race starts, develop winning tactics, and make the most of conditions to get your boat performing at its best.

Youll also have the opportunity to experience our club racing scene with on-the-water coaching—helping you understand briefings, plan your strategy, and navigate the course with confidence. While results wont be officially recorded during coached races, your placements will be calculated so you can see how far youve come.

AI training

Interested in becoming a watersports instructor? Our Assistant Instructor pathway is the perfect place to start.

Delivered in-house by our Chief Instructor, this programme gives you hands-on experience both on land and on the water. Youll play an active role in sessions, building the skills and confidence needed to teach others.

Youll begin with a volunteer based one-month probationary training period, observing experienced instructors and developing your own abilities. During this time, youll have access to a heavily discounted powerboat qualification as a means of thank you for your time —an invaluable certificate for your future.

Successful candidates will then join the team as fully qualified Assistant Instructors.
