CYC Round the Island Race/Cruise via Lymington
This is the CYC Round the Island Race which we hold a couple of months after the main event due to tides and to give those who complete in the real RTI a chance to forget what the south side of the IoW looks like. Our RTI is held over two days with a stopover in Lymington on Saturday night before we return to Chichester, via the south side of the Island on Sunday. It is a far more relaxed affair than the main event so more conducive to our lighthearted approach to racing.HW Portsmouth is 12:32BST, which suggests an 11:45 start at Chi Buoy to make best use of the westward tide. We will be mooring on the Dan Bran Pontoon in Lymington with dinner in a local pub to fortify us for the early start the next morning to get out of the Needles to catch the favourable tide home past St Catherines Lighthouse (hopefully). If the weather is not playing the game we will return via the way we came on the north side of the island. Any boat that would like to take part in the race is welcome: you do not need to be an experienced racer to take part; & cruising-only participants are very welcome. With a total of 3 bits of CYC silverware up for grabs over this weekend, entry to the race list is recommended and it all adds to the fun. As usual, detailed sailing instructions will be sent out before the race. Anyone who has not been on one of our competitive cruises before and is daunted by the term race please dont be. If you would like to ask any questions before signing up please give James a call or drop an email to racing.yachts.cyc@gmail.com .
