Ramble:Beacon Hill Loop from Hooksway

BEACON HILL LOOP FROM HOOKSWAY
For the 1st walk of the 2025/26 ramble season we will meet at the Royal Oak, Hooksway, PO18 9JZ ready for 10.00 am start. Take care on the lane down to the pub from the main road, it is quite narrow and steep but there is plenty of parking at the pub.
The route is mixture of downland and woodland walking. We start with a gentle uphill walk through woodland, hopefully with some autumn colours. We emerge on to open downland and descend to Monkton Farm, site of a former medieval village. From here we walk up the valley to join the South Downs Way which we follow westwards to Beacon Hill summit from where there are fine views in all directions. The route is undulating with ups and downs and a short but fairly steep final ascent. We will stop for a well earned coffee break on Beacon Hill. For those new to our walks please supply your own refreshments. We descend from Beacon Hill to return to Hooksway via Telegraph House.
Good paths with 1 stile. Dogs are welcome but will need to be on leads near sheep.
Distance 5.5 miles
Total ascent 1000 feet.
The pub will require pre orders. We will contact all participants with menu details nearer the time. Max numbers 24 for lunch .
