CYC contribute to rowing success in the annual Cockleshell Race

The coastal rowing race season is well underway. Last weekend saw the annual Cockleshell Race of nearly 14km and hosted by Eastney Cruising Association in Southsea. The endurance race takes rowers of many boat classes from ECA out into the Solent, through the famous Submarine Barrier and out to Horse Sands Fort and back.
Some CYC rowers formed part of a ladies crew from 4 clubs rowing together as friends in the Coastal Rowing Academys Celtic Longboat, Captain Tim. After a very strong start, they pulled away from other boats to win the fastest Celtic trophy in a solid 1 hour and 28 minutes in the heat. This included beating the mens and mixed crews.
The 4-woman crew came also an impressive second in the ladies overall on lapsed time, just behind a 6-crew Cornish Pilot gig.
Its another example of great collaboration between local clubs and the depth of coastal rowing now in the Three Harbours. Please do contact the Office
or Lindsey Parlow on 07825 293302 if you would like to have a taster row in our lovely Celtic, Cygnet, or our scull, Kev.
