Romans in Bembridge Yacht Cruise: 4-6 Sept

Salve! It was a feisty crossing against strong head winds for the nine boats that came to Bembridge for our Roman themed early autumn cruise, so it was a tribute to all sailors that everyone made it on one day or another.

We were rewarded with a really lovely dinner at Brading Haven Yacht Club in improving weather. For the non sailing day we marched like the proud Romans we were to Brading Haven Roman Villa, mindful that in the classical era Bembridge was an island off the Isle of Wight and the marshes we crossed were then a quiet harbour. (A smaller legion chose like Carthaginians to be transported, not by an elephant but by cab). 

That night we revelled like Gods at the marina barbacue and enjoyed a Latin and Classical Quiz from which Perfectly Fine took the laurel wreath. Finally we split up and some took the early tide and some the late, enjoying a perfect downwind into the harbour as the sun set over the wine dark sea.  Carpe Diem!
