Ramble to the Trundle
Published 00:00 on 18 Dec 2024
On 14th December nineteen stalwart club members spent a few hours away from Christmas preparations and winter boat maintenance to get some fresh air and excellent views on a climb to the Trundle from Lavant. We met at the Earl of March pub and gave our orders to the efficient Susie and set off promptly.
Our route took us for a mile and a half along the East side of the River Lavant, which was flowing quite fast. Then we ascended the outliers of the hill in an Easterly direction and stopped by a copse for a rest. The next section was easier, with sight of the Trundle ahead and one or two fine stops to see the clear views of the Isle of Wight to the South West and the Downs to the North. A tea van was a welcome distraction for many and energies were restored for the walk to the trig point at 206m. The weather was excellent, calm, mild and dry.
The descent was easy down Chalk Pit lane and we were back in the pub on time where the orders were swiftly delivered to our table. Altogether it was a fine morning and the pub was excellent.
Thanks to all who came and provided good company.
