Women On The Water
Published 10:41 on 4 Mar 2026
The February meeting of Women on the Water was both entertaining and a great opportunity for us to improve our pilotage and navigational skills.
We started with a quiz which included buoyage, Rules of the Road, (or should it be Rules of the Sea!) and the importance of maintaining a logbook. This was a good revision exercise for some, whilst others learnt the basics of collision regulations.
Although most of us are familiar with Chichester Harbour and the Solent, we then went on to discuss the elements of a Passage Plan. We had all brought our charts of the Solent and worked out a passage plan from Chichester to Yarmouth, highlighting tidal streams, hazards and estimated times of departure and arrival. Then we practiced using a handbearing compass a useful skill if the chartplotter should give up the ghost.
And of course we enjoyed a cup of coffee and good company. Our thanks to Pat Purslow for organizing this excellent morning.
Our next meeting will be on Sunday 29th March at 10am, a joint session with the monthly discussion group led by Richard Serna and Pat Purslow. This will include short handed man overboard scenario, RNLI life jacket advice and clinic.
